October
3, 2007 - Arrival to Jubilee Jeeps
We
entered a contract with Tony Casey in November of 2006 to
buy this rare, but not really a valuable truck. I say that
with a grin because it has value to me since my first FSJ
was a 1972 J4600 that served me and my shark fishing endeavors
very well in the Florida panhandle during 1976 and 77. Sampson
truck was paid for in January of 2007 and we received shipment
in October of that year. Tony is the second owner. His part
in the truck's life was to sell it to us and kindly store
it until we could get it shipped to Colorado. The first owner
converted it to dual rear wheels and had the rear fender flares
extended over the tires. The tailgate is almost NOS quality
because the truck had a cab over camper on it most of it's
life and the gate was stored in a barn. It has a 360 2bbl,
T400 and D20 along with Dana 60 full floating rear end and
Dana HD44 front end and is rated 8000 lbs. GVW. The engine
has been gone over at least once because it is red instead
of the proper AMC teal color. Right now it has no fuel tank
so is considered in non-op status but the 360 and drivetrain
all works. The engine is very tired and smokes quite a bit
after it warms up. Our plans include restoring to a former
glory and fitting it with a cab over camper for base camp
duties while on our travelling and off road holidays!

We
don't really know Sampson that well yet, but Krista used
to ride a big red and white beast of a Percheron/Thoroughbred
horse named Sampson (with the P unlike Samson and Delilah).
These pictures remind her of
him. So, the J4800 has a name!
Here
is Krista and Sampson when she was 16, circa 1986. Notice
what is parked in the back ground!
