1976 Cherokee Chief

401 Donor & Just Parts

While we were at the 2007 Ouray FSJ Invasion, we had a fella roll in the KOA campground with this Cherokee for sale. It has a 401 in with low mileage since rebuild. The body was shot but drive train appeared to be intact. We hemmed and hawed about this Jeep until several months later when we called and worked a deal for $400 minus the carb. Flint and Ryan rode up in May 2008 and picked it up in Montrose, CO. The previous owner before the seller had the 401 installed after blowing up the original 360. He found it at a machine shop all ready to go except for intake manifold so he installed the 2 bbl intake from the 360. It appears to be a 71-73 engine since it has the 3 bolt harmonic balancer and pulley on the crank shaft. The engine has approximately 10,000 miles on it, runs well and has quite valve train. The QuadraTrac chain was banging and klanking just to drive it up on the trailer. This Chief will be parted out to help other FSJs survive and the 401 will go in the Camper Special.
